Environmental Commission Chairperson, Dan Hullings, announced today that a draft of the Pemberton Township Environmental Resource Inventory (ERI) was received today from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC). The ERI document is a comprehensive look at the township and encompasses the historical and present day township environment. The draft document includes an assessment of the physical characteristics such as the soil composition, surface and ground water resources, archeological sites, plant and animal diversity including endangered and threatened species, land use patterns and current preservation methods.

The ERI will be a useful tool for residents, DVRPC and the township. Education about the township’s resources is one of the cornerstones of the inventory — it will become an important source of information for township residents. They will be able to understand how these resources affect their daily lives and how this information can be used as a tool to protect these resources from being wasted or inadvertently mismanaged.

This project, which kicked off in September 2009, is being supported by a $6,000 grant from Association of New Jersey Environmental Commission with matching funds from Pemberton Township.

Representatives of the DVRPC and Pemberton Township Environmental Commission will present the document to the Township Council during the governing body’s regularly scheduled meeting on April 21st at 7:00 PM. Residents, business owners, and other interested persons are invited to comment on the ERI, a copy of which is available for review at the Township Clerk’s Office during normal business hours.
